How to Choose the perfect Fresh Water Pearl Necklaces
Fresh water pearls make pearl jewelry like pearl necklaces, pearl pendants etc. These are the perfect gift for every woman and young girl. Pearls are rare commodities that were once possessed only by the rich and famous. Because of the pearl's aesthetic appeal, they are reputed to have medicinal properties. Freshwater pearls are, as the name implies, only found in freshwater mollusks. Though they may also have a perfectly round shape, just as saltwater ones, they are slightly more likely to have an irregular, baroque shape. This is due to the cultivation method, in part. Whereas saltwater cultivation methods use a small piece of shell or a bead, freshwater pearls are cultivated by implanting a small piece of mantle or other tissue. The nacre doesn't have a completely round nucleus and so is less likely to be round when harvested. Natural pearls are almost always irregular. It is also much easier to mass produce freshwater pearls, as each oyster may be implanted multiple times - I've read that they can produce up to 20 pearls for each oyster though less is more likely.

Thanks to the natural beauty of freshwater pearls, there is very little modification required to make a lovely fresh water pearl necklace or set-the important part is the finished design. You can get a nice set of pearls by paying attention to several major factors. The first one is the luster or shine of the pearl. A good pearl is shiny and is scratch free. A pearl that is dull does not have enough layers of nacre on it.
A good fresh water pearl is not simply white or black or pink, if you look closely at it; you can see a rainbow of colors. The changes in light produce yellows and greens and even blues all over the pearl surface. Close attention must be paid to the surface of the pearl, when a person can see different color on it; this means its nacre content is high and it is a mature pearl.
The shape of the pearl is also extremely important; a well cultivated pearl is round to the eye. When they say round to the eye it means it looks round with the bare eyes not with an instrument to measure the circumference. Since freshwater pearls are made naturally by a living being, it is almost impossible for them to be perfectly round. A good pearl must not have any scratches or bumps on the surface either; it should be smooth and soft to the touch.
