The fours C’s are cut, clarity, carat weight and color. But the shape of the diamond also matters. A lot. Because an ugly shape equals an ugly diamond!
Engagement rings with diamonds
Engagement rings and diamonds are hard to see as two separate things. The one simply is nothing without the other. A diamond without a ring is not that bad, but an engagement ring without a diamond isn’t that great. Just think about basically every movie or tv show that focuses on a wedding proposal. Apart from the upcoming engagement, the girl usually shows off her big, shining rock to all her friends. Whether they care or not. And you can bet any money they haven’t got a clue what the diamond is all about. For example, the shape. What’s it called?
Most popular shapes for diamonds
One of the most popular shapes for diamonds is the Round shape. Yes, this is a round stone indeed. As seen from above, that is. The shape names are based on how the diamonds look from above. Easy to remember! The flat sides on the rocks are called facets. Those facets are the reason why a diamond sparkles as they let in the light. The light reflects (based on how the diamond is cut) and this is why there’s that sparkle. With the Round shape you can customize a lot of other things when it comes to the diamond. For example the color and clarity, which is more difficult than with other diamond shapes. Another popular shape is the Princess. The shape looks like a square from above.
Diamonds and settings
Besides the four C’s (they determine the value and looks of the diamond) and the s for shape, is the setting also a factor to rely on when it comes to a diamond ring. The setting is the part where the stone is set in. So basically it’s nothing more than a socket for the stone, placed on the ring. The setting holds the diamond, and a classic setting used very often is the so-called Classic Four Claw setting. Of course, the amount of four can be replaced by thee or two or what not. It all comes down to the diamond that’s in it. Because, some cuts and shapes are not suitable for certain settings.
Different shapes of diamonds
- Asscher: this shape is a combination of the Emerald (which has one big facet of top) and the Princess. It looks like a square, but it isn’t. Same goes for round or oval, it’s looks like it but it both just doesn’t apply.
- Marquise: Looks round and oval, a combination of the both.
- Emerald: Sort of like a square with stairs like big flat facet.
- Radiant: Looks a bit like the Emerald, but the corners of the stone are different.
- Cushion: A pillow like diamond with round corners and big facets.
- Pear: The Pear Shaped, tear like diamond makes a finger looks thinner and longer.
- Oval: The oval shape (like the Pear and Marquise) makes a finger look long and thin. Has a round touch to it.
- Heart: The shape of love is a heart, of course. Engagement rings with a heart shaped diamond are bound to kick off the start of your engagement successfully.
The hunt for diamanten doesn’t have to be that hard. It all comes down to your own taste, or the taste of your fiancé more like. Diamanten ringen can be as expensive (or cheap) as you like. Just pay attention to a few important things!
