Pear Shaped Diamonds: Attractive And Graceful
Some call them teardrop diamonds, while others know them as pear shaped diamonds. The technical name is ‘pear shaped modified brilliant’, and rightly so. The De Beers Millennium Star is a rare internally and externally flawless diamond. The D color diamond is 203.04 carats in weight and is cut to perfect proportions to possess an exquisite pear shape. The stone has been deemed the second largest faceted D Flawless diamond in the world, with the first being the 273.15 carat Centenary Diamond. Being the 10th largest diamond in the world, the De Beers Millennium Star rough stone weighed at 777 carats. The rough was found in mines of the Mbuji Mayi district of Zaire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1990, and took the skilled cutters at Steinmetz three years to craft it to perfection. The magnificent diamond was first put on display in October of 1999 at the De Beers Millennium Diamond Collection as the centerpiece.
The Steinmetz Eos is a 101.41 carat, D colour, flawless diamond, while the Blue Empress is a beautiful fancy vivid blue jewel weighing 14 carats. The Blue Empress is celebrated the world over for its unique colour and exceptional quality, although the stone’s colour and clarity grade have not been declared to the public. First unveiled to the general public in November of 2003, it soon made media headlines. The exclusive coloured diamond was displayed at the fine jewellery department of Harrods Department Store in London. The rough diamond was discovered in the De Beers diamond mines in Transvaal, South Africa. The Steinmetz Group bought the rough and the Blue Empress was crafted by expert cutter Matis Vitrol. Considered one of the best cutters across the globe, Matis Vitrol is also responsible for the beauty of the De Beers Millennium Star Diamond.
